Middle Gate III is Curated by Philippe van Cauteren, director of SMAK Gent. Together with Pierre Muyle.
The concept of Middle Gate was originally conceived by Jan Hoet. And later continued by other curators.
Middlegate III is an extensive realization with 54 artists within an environment with human mental vulnerabilities.
Quote form the catalogue: ” the care of the mentally ill in the city of Geel has been happening for a long time through living together” (with the citizens of the city of Geel; Pieter Slagboom).
Middlegate III is a framework where the sensitivity of art and the sensitivity of the human psychology are intertwined.
The psychiatric institution consists of various characteristic buildings on a large environment in the city of Geel in Belgium.
